I do like recording though as I am still watching a series from last Summer - did not watch it then due to being out on the nice evenings. Thanks - I will keep a look out one of the older models with AV out.

You probably don't need a new TV and as I mentioned, instead of recording you can use catch up services. It was just a thought, and if I could have connected it to my TV/VCR then I would have gone for it. Sadly I did used to get iPlayer on it (Technica) but the service was withdrawn.

Adding the Now box was just a thought and if it means buying a new TV and something to record the Now TV box then the value has gone and I'll just stick with the plain Freeview. It was the last model they made of the normal shape screen. My TV is a Philips 25" from 2005 - not widescreen, but you can press a button on the remote and it 'crushes' the picture to widescreen, or automatically if the digibox outputs the W/S switching flag. I still think that a new TV, with or without a Now box depending on what you want to watch, is the only sensible way forward. What make and model is your TV, is it widescreen and how old is it? Some people on this forum are in the trade and with that information should be able to give you accurate advice rather than speculation. So would one of the new boxes and an HDMI converter give me PAL and not turn off? They look such good value and I'd love to watch YouTube on my TV! Thanks for the input - and saving me money - as the box turning off after 4 hours and only outputting NTSC would have been a problem as whilst my TV will play an NTSC signal my video won't record that and as you know it is not always possible to be there to watch the programme and recording it would be useful.
